Objectives

At the end of this course you will be able to diagnose and treat the common disorders.

You will have practiced taking suitable impressions and facebow registrations for a Michigan splint, and will fit a and adjust a splint on a real patient.

What are the symptoms & signs? How do occlusal splints work? Should I use soft splints? How do I examine the articulatory system? Is it justifiable to adjust the occlusion to treat TMD? How can I tell the difference between the various disorders? Is there any particular design of splint that is more effective?

How to avoid incorrectly diagnosing occlusal trauma as pain of endodontic origin. How to make occlusal splints that fit and are stable 1st time, needing only minimal adjustment at the time of fit. How to adjust occlusal splints and how often to review your patients. What to do if the splint doesn’t eliminate the problem. Creating a safe environment for restorative work.
